It takes a hands-on training program to prepare for that career path. And that’s what our HVAC/R program is designed to do – help you get started toward a rewarding future in a growing field.

EPA Section 608 Certification

March 6 from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Students will be taught and tested on the individual modules (Core, Type 1, Type 2 & Type 3). Once they pass, they will be certified in each specific area and will receive the EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant certification and licensing, backed by ESCO Institute. Testing is done on campus and results are immediate

The cost of the one-day class is $160/person. Cost includes the exam fees, instruction manual, full instructed class, and access to our testing center for certification. Upon completion, participants are issued certificate of achievement.

Refrigeration Fundamentals Certification

March 7 from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
This one-day course will cover refrigeration fundamentals, the refrigeration cycle, refrigeration components, sequence of operations, walk-in coolers/freezers, preventative maintenance procedures, and safety.
The cost for class is $75/person. Upon completion, participants are issued certificate of achievement.

Employment-Ready Certification Courses

This class will give the individual an opportunity to learn all about the brazing and soldering processes. There is a relatively short training manual to accompany the learning in the classroom. The students will learn about the types of copper, the processes, brazing, soldering, and leak testing. This will be one test of 50 questions requiring a minimum 70% correct to PASS the test and gain the certification.

This class is a blend of both instructional and hands-on work. It covers the following topics: systems and components, equipment installation and service, heating systems and components, theory and application, as well as safety and finally troubleshooting. After completion of the class, it will be followed by a 100-question exam in our testing center. Passing the exam provides an Employment Ready Credential/Certification from HVAC Excellence and the ESCO Group.

Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires certification for individuals working with appliances containing regulated refrigerants. This class is to help prepare students for the EPA Refrigerant Handling License and will be offered at Belmont’s Main Campus. This class and exam are approved and sanctioned by HVAC Excellence and the ESCO Group and results are immediate.

This class will cover both an instructional and hands-on lab approach in which the individual will demonstrate to the instructor the recovery and evacuation processes. The instructional portion will cover safety, the refrigerant recovery process, recycling and reclamation, the evacuation process, proper tool use, measuring a deep vacuum, and filter drier use. It will then be followed by a 50-question exam in our testing center. Passing the exam provides an Employment Ready Credential/Certification from HVAC Excellence and the ESCO Group.

Shan Kelley, HVAC/R Workforce Development Instructor is an alumni of º¬Ðß²ÝAV and has worked in the commercial field of HVAC as a journeyman. He provides instruction training and credentialing in many areas of the HVAC/R industry. This also includes plumbing and electrical, in the forms of certification and credentialing as provided from HVAC Excellence and the Esco group
